I believe that personal success is a simple formula.  A simple, 3-point formula that is easy to follow, and within everyone’s ability.  Here it is:

• Take pride in your work. Whether you’re working alone, part of a team, or a manager responsible for the work of others, take pride in your work. Do the very best you possibly can, however menial the task in hand.  Whatever you do, choose to do it brilliantly.

• Study your craft.  Never stop learning.  I don’t mean passively learning, I mean proactively learning.  Continuously be reading something that helps you to get better at what you do.  Become knowledgable.  To become an ‘expert’ in something, read at least 3 books about it.  Read blogs, participate in forums; have an insatiable thirst for knowledge.

• Be the friendliest, most enthusiastic person you know.  Respect everyone equally, regardless of their position.  Help others even when it puts you out.  Stay positive even in times of adversity.  Be optimistic about the future even when it’s hard.  Be the friendliest, most enthusiastic person you know, and show it.

So there you have it.  I honestly believe that your path to personal success is really that simple.  The great thing is, none of these things require special skills.  They are all just a question of attitude.  Things you can simply choose to do.

Choose to take pride in your work, study your craft, and be the friendliest, most enthusiastic person you know.  Even if you’re not doing now what you want to be doing in future, do these things and recognition and opportunities will follow.  I guarantee it.
